Wednesday

Do you know how rare it is to have intact Roman pottery from this period in this type of shape? No? Oh, go watch some archaelogical dig shows and look at some of the shit they get out of the ground.

Tuesday

What do we say about Roman pottery? Well… in this case, it’s beautiful, and somehow, it managed to survive – which is a miracle, when you look at those handles.

Tuesday

Okay, seriously, this trumps anything that modern jewelers are churning out – hands down. If you think otherwise, there is clearly something wrong with you.

Monday

Mmmm, traditional Greek sculpture. Let’s just admire it. I really don’t need to make pithy commentary, do I?

Wednesday

This ring is tiny. Not just small, tiny. It’s like pinky ring sized for me, so it’s hella wee, like a standard size 5.5. You would think this wouldn’t be a pinky ring for Akhenaten, though, so he probably wasn’t the biggest guy to start with.

Tuesday

It’s not so difficult to believe that things like pens and inkpots haven’t changed at all over the millenia.

Monday

Nice to know that the bureaucratic way of life hasn’t changed in thousands of years and we have the records to prove it. Also nice to know that handwriting standards haven’t slipped, either… and that cursive is still elusive in most written languages.

Sunday

I’d really like to think that this dude was the winner of some slam-dunk poetry recital ala a rap battle where they went toe to toe in a ring duking it out over the gods or some hot guy’s body in verbal deference. Because it makes me smile.

Saturday

The Romans were really into lead. It’s a wonder enough people survived Roman civilization to populate the world, to be brutally honest.
